Aricdell Flat-Coated Retrievers

Lara

Welcome To Aricdell

Our Aricdell kennel began with the arrival of Maddox from the Huntfar kennel in the spring of 2003, which has led us to develop our own line. Our own affix of 'Aricdell' was granted in 2004, the two words 'Aric' an Old Norse name (pronounced AR-ikk) meaning 'eternal ruler' and 'Dell' meaning 'of the valley', fit together well giving us Aricdell. From there we began our own line of Flat Coated Retrievers.
Lara followed in the autumn of 2003 and our love of Flat Coats grew even more. It is testament to how loveable and endearing this breed is. With the advice and guidutance of many experienced breeders our first litter came in 2005. Special credit has to go to my friend Adelaide, as without her guidance and continuing advice, Aricdell would have never become what it is. Big thanks also to my brother Ben who set up this website and gave me the push I needed to start it and keep it updated.
In the autumn of 2005 Lara was mated to Multi Champion Almanza Roundabout many thanks to Moray and Kathryn Armstrong for allowing us to use Robin. Lara became mum to 11 beautiful puppies, 6 sons and 5 daughters, from this litter we kept our beloved Aria, all the pups from this litter have proved to excel in all activities. In 2007 came our second litter again from Lara this time she was mated to Maddox, they produced 7 beautiful puppies, from this litter we kept the delightful Darwin. We couldn't resist this bonny boy who is a handsome combination of our foundation pair.
Nevis followed in 2007 from Aria's debut litter to the handsome Mossdew Game Boy, a beautiful litter and Nevis had that certain something we were looking for. We are very grateful to Sylvia and Reg Bunting for allowing us to use Derry with Aria.
2010 saw a new arrival here at Aricdell, Delta joined us from the Bitcon kennel in Carlisle, many thanks to Moray Armstrong and all at Bitcon for allowing Delta to become part of Aricdell. Delta is a bitch with a fantastic lineage, her breeding goes directly back to the Almanza kennel in Sweden, we have long admired the Almanza Flat Coats and what they have achieved, not only as Show Winners but in Field Trial, Obedience and Tracking. Producing versatile, clever minded beautiful dogs. We have been very fortunate to include Almanza dogs in our breeding, previously with Lara mating her to Almanza Roundabout, producing our gorgeous Aria. Aria was mated to a son of Almanza Play Station in Mossdew Game Boy giving us our beautiful Nevis and now with Delta carrying Almanza bloodlines from her sire Almanza Sound Of A Bagpipe and her dam Magic Water who herself is an Almanza Roundabout daughter.

2011, began with Aria's superb litter with Piper (Almanza Sound Of A Bagpipe), this is Aria's last litter and it was a fantastic opportunity to have her mated to an impressive young dog from the Almanza kennel. We kept Carmen from the litter of 9, she stood out from the litter early on and she has now joined our Aricdell lineup. 2011 also welcomed Nevis' debut litter, very impressive black daughters and a son, sired by Piper. In time we hope Carmen will join Nevis and Delta and bring our Aricdell line further on.
It's been amazing and so heartwarming to see our foundation bitch Lara become a mother, grandmother and now great grandmother. So wonderful to see the 3 generations come bounding in the gate after being out in the field or at the woods.
Sadly 2011 also saw the passing of Champion Almanza Roundabout (Robin), we were extremely privilged to use this dog back in 2005, Robin was a fantastic Flat Coat, he won many prestigious accolades and awards, a prime example of the breed and a true showman. We are lucky to have a daughter (Aria) and 3 grandchildren (Nevis, Delta & Carmen) here at Aricdell all carrying his impressive bloodlines.
Our Flat Coats are a joy to own and all of them bring a different special something to the group.
Seeing our Aricdells' bounding about in the fields, investigating in the woods and tearing along the beach makes it all worthwhile, they brighten the darkest of days and their endless joy and love of life make them such a wonderful breed to share your life with. Our Flat Coats face anything head on, yearly checkups at the vet are undertaken with full gusto surprising many a fellow dog owner in the waiting room that our Flat Coats go heading for the surgery at 100 miles an hour whilst their dogs have to be bribed to go in and exit at full speed on the way out.
We have met some wonderful people and made some lasting friendships over the years with our Flat Coats. We are especially grateful to those who now own an Aricdell puppy who keep in touch and send us such lovely photos and stories about their puppies.

Our puppies from Aricdell have gained success in many areas, the show ring, as working gundogs and taking part in obedience and agility activities. Most importantly the Aricdells' are living life as superb family companions, enjoying life with their new families and bringing them joy for many years. We receive regular e-mails and photos from all our puppies, as well as occasional visits, it's so rewarding seeing puppies we have bred mature into the beautiful, majestic breed that Flat Coats are.
Those looking for a fun loving family dog with a great love for adventure, with an endlessly waggy tail and joy for life, well the Flat Coat may well be the dog for you! To some they are just a black dog, but those who know and love this breed know they are so much more.

All our dogs have achieved low hip scores and are passed clear/unaffected eye tests. These tests are a must for all breeding dogs/bitches. We are not commercial breeders, with any litter we have we always have the view to keeping a puppy from the litter to progress our line.

November 2011 dealt us a huge blow, after missing for 4 days Lara was found at the side of the road near Marywell, not far from our road end. She had been hit by a car. She was just the best, a fantastic dog to know and love. Lara leaves us heartbroken and missed incredibly by us all and her Aricdells'.
March 2012 saw the 'Lord of Aricdell' leave us, sadly Maddox after battling a short but very progressive illness was given sleep. Maddox was a fantastic dog, everybodys friend and loved by everyone who met him.
